Tu 30 Oct, 11:36 am ~ DCE Advisory Committee
Sandy Lygren, President of BrCCC
Per Presidential power/duty/responsbilities outlined in our bylaws, based on my on-going, demonstrated committment to further empowering and engaging you all, and, (early release announced) based on ongoing issues raised in email recently and in meeting yesterday, I am happy to announce my plan for the creation of: Ad Hoc DCE Advisory Committee
This body will have much influence in our greater BrCCC and report to the Executive Committee, like other committees, on matters of import to those in the DCE CBA. Details about the charge of this committee will be forthcoming in the next weeks. In the meantime, I am announcing my search for a Chair. Chairs are selected by the Pres of the chapter and approved by Executive Committee.
Only those who are active members teaching in the DCE contract are eligible to be on this committee. It is my hope to have different “types” of DCE fac represented so all voices are heard and represented. (only BCC DCE, DCE at more than one CC or at state or private colleges, FT BCC or other FT CC or FT SC and DCE, FT privately and DCE, retired and DCE and so on….). We represent all members of the DCE contract.
The time committment anticipated is 1 – 2 meetings per month. Like other committees, this may be possible electronically/virtually or asyncronously thanks to technology. The Chair sets the meeting dates and time in conjunction with their members.
If you are interested in nominating yourself or another, please send full name to BrCCC_ChapterOfficers@bristolcc.edu.
Th 25 Oct, 9:30 am ~ MTA Ethnic Minority Affairs Committee Conference
Sandy Lygren, President of BrCCC
I have recently learned of this great event sponsored by the MTA Ethnic Minority Affairs Committee Conference.
The MTA Ethnic Minority Affairs Committee Conference offers participants the opportunity to engage in discussions about white privilege and racism, ethnic and racial identity, and economic and social justice. The conference uses workshops, presentations and entertainment to inspire participants to work on ideas for action and to bring those ideas back to their locals, classrooms and communities. The MTA Ethnic Minority Affairs Committee has designed an engaging program with workshops, facilitated discussions, two keynote speakers, and entertainment! The theme of this year’s conference is Wake Up! Break the Cycle of Racism.

Please consider and let BrCCC Leadership know if you are going. We’d love to give you some mic time at a spring meeting to share your experience(s).
You can apply for Professional Development money to pay for such an event in a variety of ways at Bristol you may not be aware of.
To learn more, go to: http://www.bristolcc.edu/bristolcommunity/facultystaff/humanresources/professionaldevelopment/.
In addition, the Affirmative Action Committee is another pathway one can reach out to for specific activities (of which this event specifically feels like a great match with their mission), as well as, Strategic Planning (if this fits into greater programmatic or departmental goals).
Moral of the story — never NOT go to something worthwhile to your PD, students, job performance… due to financial hardship. Ask where the money is and try to get funded.
YES DCE/ADJUNCTS, THIS INCLUDES YOU TOO!!!! < — Woot! And, what a great way to build your resume when you apply for a FT position here or elsewhere. Building that out of classroom vitae is a great “make it to the yes pile” strategy (in my opinion as a program coordinator, department chair, past search committee member or chair).
