Catherine Adamowicz (2020-2021)
DCE REPRESENTATIVES MEETING
December 10, 2021
MINUTES
1. It is reported that a new committee will be formed to find out what ideal
conditions for adjuncts would be. This group will meet six times. Will
form adjunct Bill of Rights.
2. Question is asked about the status of MCCC contract talks. Members
of contract committee hope to have this completed by end of calendar
year.
3. Question is asked if non-union faculty members should have the right
to vote on the new union contract. The response from some of the DCE
Representatives is a strong no.
4. Topic of vaccine requirements is raised. Question is asked why faculty
members must be vaccinated if teaching on-line yet on-line students
do not have to meet the same requirement.
Reason is explained. Faculty who only teach on-line may be required
to come to the campus for necessary reason. Since no such reason
would exist for an on-line student, they do not have to be vaccinated.
Policies are set by each college individually. As far as vaccines are
concerned, all fifteen community colleges took the same position, but
did not have to.
5. MCCC did not push for a policy of mandatory vaccines for teachers.
Neither did the MTA. It terrifies some faculty that we may lose col-
leagues because they never were vaccinated.
Some colleges are exploring the possibility of accommodating facul-
ty who request an accommodation. At QCC, administrators will be
very flexible to help people. At QCC, would consider paying for week-
ly test of faculty not vaccinated.
6. Shortage of adjunct faculty teaching DCE despite the fact that some
adjuncts did not get as many courses that they had hoped for in
their disciplines.
It is speculated that large percentage of adjuncts who retired, did so
simply because they did not want to learn new technologies neces-
sary for on-line.
7. Some faculty not gaining seniority when only teaching one course
for an entire year.
8. Number one request of adjunct faculty as far as contract is concerned
is guaranteed second course per semester.
It is advised that we must begin organizing now as adjuncts to make
the two course minimum a major issue during the next few years. To
be heard by many in preparation for the next contract talks.
9. Meeting adjourns. No exact time is set for the next meeting. A doodle
poll will be sent out.
