M 23 Dec ~ Raises and Retro Money
Paulette Howarth, BrCCC President
The raises and retro money owed to members should be paid out in early February. To calculate your salary, multiply your salary from last January 2018, by 2%, then multiply that salary as of July 2018, by another 2%. That should give your the updated salary. Add the extra money per month and that should give you your retro. The next raise is scheduled for July, 2019.
Salary grids can be found in the new contract at mccc-union.org. I have copies of the new contract in the union office in A-107. I will be in and out of the office, from December 26 through January 6, excluding holidays and weekends.

Tu 10 Dec ~ Trustees Meeting Yesterday and Call for Action
Emily Brown, BrCCC Vice President
Dismissive. Rude. Condescending.
Those are words used to describe the Trustees attitude towards the faculty and staff of Bristol Community College at yesterday’s meeting at 4pm.
Thank you to everyone who came out to show support at yesterday’s Board of Trustees meeting. There were more than 50 members in attendance. MCCC shared the attached information at the meeting. Melanie Johnson, the AFSCME steward, was not permitted to speak for not making a formal request in advance. MCCC members congregated in the G Lobby following the meeting to provide a space for Melanie to read her concerns so AFSCME could be heard. MCCC previously sent the results of the climate survey, executive summary, and results of the votes of no confidence to the Board.
Chairwoman Joan Medeiros stated there were inconsistencies in our material that will require verification. She indicated the Board will send a letter for specific items they are requesting before they conduct a review.
Following the meeting, we received an invitation for a college holiday party for Friday. For that entire morning, MCCC will meet to impact bargain with the administration the newest reorganization of Academic Affairs.
In solidarity for those impacted by these haphazard changes and the tireless fight MCCC is doing for its members in this toxic climate, we ask that you boycott the college holiday party.
MCCC is asking you to join us and organize this Friday, from 1-3 pm. Please meet in the atrium of H Building to discuss next steps and strategies.
In solidarity.

M 18 Nov ~ Contract Action
Paulette Howarth, BrCCC President
Our legislature’s formal session ends this Wednesday, the 20th; and if the supplemental budget, which includes the money owed us, including retroactive money, is not passed then, it is highly likely that we will not receive that money until sometime next year.
Please call and/or e-mail you legislators–and Senator Michael Rodrigues, who is the Ways and Means Committee Chair, and is primarily responsible for holding up the supplemental budget.
Use this link to Find My Legislator.
All you need to say is this: “We’ve done our jobs, but we haven’t been paid; now you do your job–get the supplemental budget passed by this coming Wednesday, November 20th!”
W 13 Nov ~ Update and Action Request
Rosemarie Freeland, MCCC Vice President and SAC Chair
Our Day unit salary increases have not yet been appropriated by the legislature and Governor, despite our expectations that the Fiscal Year 2019 close out supplemental budget bill would be finalized by this time.
The House passed its version on Oct 16 (H.4132, section 56) and the Senate passed its version on Oct 24 (S,2386 section 75).
There are no differences between the versions relating to any of the Collective Bargaining salary adjustments, including MCCC. This morning I spoke with Christopher Marino, the Massachusetts Senate Budget Director. He informed me that in preparation for conference committee, the co-chairs of the Joint Committee on Ways and Means (Senator Michael Rodrigues and Rep Aaron Michlewitz) will begin negotiating policy differences that do exist between the House and Senate versions (according to various news sources, differences include a $37 million Business tax break and 2020 state primary scheduling/voting/early voting), Despite the state comptroller’s statutory financial reporting deadline of Oct 31, Mr. Marino anticipates that final approval of the supp might be next week.
Please call your Representative and Senator (see below to find your legislator), introduce yourself, name your college, your job title and urge them, on behalf of yourself and your 3,077 Day unit colleagues, to quickly pass the final compromise version of the end of fiscal year 2019 supplemental budget, as soon as it’s scheduled for a vote.
A necessary point to make: The MCCC increases include retroactive increases from July 1, 2018. We ratified the agreement June 28, 2019 and Commissioner Santiago requested appropriation in July.
Report back to me once you’ve made your calls and let me know how your legislator responds. 413 883 0020
Finally, thank you for your time, your patience and your work on behalf of our community colleges and the MCCC.
